Deaf rescue dog is learning sign language
It’s no secret that some of our favorite stories are about rescue dogs finding their forever home. When Sailor – a deaf pup – was adopted by a speech pathologist, his story was just getting started.
Sailor started learning American Sign Language at Best Friends Atlanta, where he was waiting to meet his people. When Allison Arnold visited their adoption page, she was instantly smitten. Arnold, a speech pathologist who has experience working with deaf children, told Best Friend Animal Society, “When we saw Sailor and learned he was deaf, we knew he was the one.”
At home with his new family, Sailor has been learning commands in sign language. Arnold said that at first, training Sailor in ASL required “patience, creativity, and a lot of laughter.” But now that Sailor is more comfortable at home with his human parents and dog siblings, he’s been able to learn even more.

How much do Americans spend on their pets?
We love to splurge on our pets. So, do you ever wonder how much you’re spending on your dog relative to other dog parents?
If you feel like you spent more on your dog this year, don’t worry – you’re in good company. According to the annual report from the American Pet Products Association, pet-related spending recently reached a record-breaking high.
Where does all the money go? Between food, supplies, trips to the vet, pet insurance, and, of course, all the fun stuff (toys, grooming, etc.), you probably know just as well as we do that there are plenty of ways to show your dog how much you care.
True or False...
Answer: FALSE! Although it is the national dog of France, the Poodle actually originated in Germany. The breed name comes from the German word “pudel” or “pudelin,” which means “to splash in the water.”
