Meet the 2 new dog breeds recognized by the AKC
Big news! The American Kennel Club just announced that it now recognizes two new breeds: a rare Hungarian herding dog and a playful toy breed that was popular among Russian aristocrats.
The Mudi (pronounced "moody") is a small- to medium-sized dog with a beautiful coat. These herding dogs excel at sports like flyball and can perform search-and-rescue missions.
Russian Toy dogs are tiny. Some have smooth coats, while others have long coats. Some are super active, while others like to lounge.
Keep an eye out for these new breeds at upcoming AKC events like the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!
Do(g)-It-Yourself
There are countless ways that having a dog can improve your life. Of course, living with a dog can also introduce some challenges when it comes to keeping your home clean.
Thankfully, dog owners are generous with their wisdom and there are many tried and true ways to simplify your life with a pup.
Check out these simple life hacks for dog owners:
Use covers to keep your furniture fur-free. It can be tricky to clean fur off of your couch, but blankets and slipcovers are easy to wash and dry.
Use baking soda to clean up pet urine. Sometimes pups have accidents. When this happens, simply pour baking soda over it, wait 20 minutes, and vacuum up the mess.
Cover up scratch marks on wooden furniture with a walnut. Yes, you read that right. When you rub a walnut over small scratches on wood, the oils will seep into the wood, helping to make scratch marks less visible.
Use a Magic Eraser to get rid of drool marks. Sometimes we think these cleaning products are actual magic. In addition to removing stains, they can also get rid of drool marks.

What does it mean when your dog licks your hand constantly?
It’s no surprise that dogs like to lick their owners, but what does it mean when your dog licks your hand a lot?
There are several reasons why your dog might make a habit of licking your hand.
Gathering information. Especially if you’ve been away from your dog for a few hours, licking your hand can help them understand where you’ve been while they were at home.
Saying hello. Dogs employ a number of methods of nonverbal communication, and hand licking can be a greeting. It can also be a form of acceptance, indicating that they trust you.
Grooming. In the wild, dogs lick the other dogs in their pack. Since you’re basically their pack leader in a domestic setting, it’s natural for your dog to want to groom you!
