Feel Good Friday: Australian Shepherd reunited with family thanks to baby's cries
We’re happy to report that Luna, an Australian Shepherd puppy, found her way back home. Her path home was as surprising as it was sweet.
Luna escaped and ran away while her owner, Amber Myers, was out shopping. The family looked all over their neighborhood, and even enlisted the help of the local animal response network.
Eventually, Myer’s brother-in-law spotted Luna. However, when he called to her, the pup ran off. If this sounds strange, it’s because dogs behave differently when they're lost. According to experts, their fight or flight instincts kick in when they're far from home.
Later, the family was out looking for Luna when Bowen, Myer’s 5-month-old baby, began to fuss. Luna – who was fortunately close by – heard Bowen’s familiar cries and ran toward him. We’re so glad that Luna has been reunited with her family!
Do(g)-It-Yourself
If you’re looking for a healthy new treat, here’s some good news: dogs love sweet potatoes, and sweet potato chews are super easy to make at home. Plus, the leftovers will last for three weeks in the fridge.
Make your own sweet potato dog chews:
What you’ll need: two sweet potatoes. Yep. That’s it.
Preheat the oven to 250º F.
Slice the sweet potatoes into rounds.
Arrange the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Bake for 3 hours, flipping once halfway through.
After the chews have cooled completely, give your dog a tasty treat!
Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.

Dog zoomies 101
We’ve all seen it. All of a sudden, there she goes – seemingly out of nowhere, your dog starts running around the house. So, what are the zoomies? And are they safe?
The zoomies, or FRAP – Frenetic Random Activity Period – is an explosion of energy that can either result from restrained physical energy or a stressful situation. When dogs get the zoomies, you’ll notice their overly excited eyes. They tend to gallop back and forth for a few minutes, before returning back to normal.
It’s perfectly natural for your dog to get the zoomies and it’s totally safe, as long as your dog is in an environment that’s safe for running around. When you need your dog to chill out, don’t run after your dog. The best way to bring your pup back to you is to lure them with a high-reward treat or toy. And if it’s safe to run around, let them get that energy out!
True or False...
Answer: FALSE!
According to animal behaviorists, “sit” is the most common training command taught to dogs (and it’s probably the easiest command to teach).
