These 15 Cities Are Ideal for Dog Owners, According to Zillow
Are you in the market for a new home? According to a recent survey, 24% of dog owners have moved since March 2020. So, if you’re relocating, you are certainly not alone.

With so many dog owners on the move and, of course, making considerations for what type of space will best suit their furry friends, Zillow has picked up on changing trends in the market. Zillow home trends expert Amanda Pendleton said, “Homes with a dog house sold for 3% more than expected last year, while homes with a fenced yard or dog run sold a few days faster than similar homes without these features, even in a year where the market was moving exceptionally fast.”

In addition to features of particular properties, dog owners are also taking into consideration city-wide amenities and policies. So, which cities should be on your list?

Here are the top 15 emerging dog-friendly U.S. cities:

  1. Denver, CO

  2. Orlando, FL

  3. Anaheim, CA

  4. Charlotte, NC

  5. Birmingham, AL

  6. Atlanta, GA

  7. Boston, MA

  8. Glendale, AZ

  9. New Orleans, LA

  10. Tampa, FL

  11. Fayetteville, NC

  12. Fort Worth, TX

  13. Miami, FL

  14. Nashville, TN

Early graying in dogs: Can dogs gray from stress like people do?
Is your dog going gray? We happen to think a little salt and pepper snout looks dignified, but you may have wondered if it’s a cause for concern. So, can dogs go prematurely gray like people under stressful situations do?

According to a recent study published in the Applied Animal Behavior Science Journal, premature graying in dogs may be correlated with a number of factors, “including some with emotional associations.” Anxious behaviors that appear to correlate with a graying muzzle include fear of loud noises and fear of unfamiliar people and unfamiliar dogs.

Other factors that correlate with graying include the dog’s age and gender. In general, researchers found that female dogs were more gray than male dogs.

The good news? If professionals who work with dogs – including vets and trainers – know that a gray muzzle in a young dog may indicate that the dog suffers from anxiety or behavioral issues, they will be more likely to assess them thoroughly and can help make their lives better.
