This Composer Will Turn a Photo of Your Pet Into a Symphony
Ever wonder what your dog would sound like as a piece of classical music? It’s an unusual question no doubt, but one composer has combined his love of animals and music into a service designed to provide the answer.
Noam Oxman, a Jerusalem-based musician, created Sympawnies which specializes in turning pet portraits into sheet music. Not only can you see what your dog would look like in a composition, you can hear the melody as well.
Each original composition is given a cute musical pet pun name, like “Adogio” or “Quarcat.” If you’re looking for a gift for a dog in your life, you might want to check out Sympawnies. According to Oxman, 20% of the profits are donated to feed and rescue strays.
You can see examples of Oxman's work (and maybe even purchase a piece of your own!) here.
Do(g)-It-Yourself
Do you have everything your pup might need in case of an emergency? Whether you’re leaving your dog with a sitter or just want to be prepared for a worst case scenario, here’s everything you need to know about assembling a first aid kit for your dog.
Although you can buy a ready-made pet first aid kit, it’s easy to assemble one for yourself with items you can find online or at your pharmacy.
How to make your own pet first aid kit:
1. What you’ll need:
A card with your vet’s contact info and the closest emergency vet hospital
Styptic powder
Tweezers
Small scissors with a blunt end
Medical adhesive tape
Gauze in a variety of sizes
Cotton balls or pads
Rubbing alcohol or antiseptic wipes
Antibiotic ointment
A pet-friendly digital thermometer
Oral syringe or turkey baster
Disposable latex gloves
Clean towels or cloth
A leash
A muzzle
2. Put all of the components in a plastic container.
3. Leave the container in an easy-to-access spot, like a hall closet.
4. Remember to restock as necessary!

Recycling your pet food packaging
Frustrated that you can’t easily recycle your dog’s food packaging? We get it. Unfortunately, since most dry food bags contain both plastic and metal, they’re not generally acceptable for curbside recycling pick up. Thankfully, TerraCycle has come up with an innovative solution to this common problem.
TerraCycle’s mission is to “eliminate the idea of waste” by taking the guesswork out of recycling. So far, TerraCycle has been able to give over 527,000 pounds of pet food packaging a second life as park benches, picnic tables, and playgrounds.
Want to get in on the action? Here are three ways you can start recycling your dog food packaging.
Choose a dog food brand that partners with TerraCycle. Their partner brands allow you to mail your empties back to TerraCycle with a prepaid shipping label.
Choose a dog food brand with drop off locations. Many brands will list out public locations where you can drop off your empty bags.
Get a Zero-waste box to share with your neighbors or coworkers. If your favorite brand doesn’t have a relationship with TerraCycle yet, you can get a box where you can save up your empty bags and send them back in. It’s not cheap, but you can split the cost with others in your area to cut down on costs.
Together, we can help eliminate waste from dog food packaging!
