These Talented Dog Painters—Yes, You Read That Right!—Donate Their Artwork to Help Pets With Cancer
Artwork created by dogs is adorable, and now, thanks to an enterprising woman in Texas, dog artwork is helping out a good cause.

Rene Agredano co-founded the Tripawds Foundation, a non-profit that provides information, financial assistance, and other resources to “three-legged animals and their people.” Later this month, some talented pup painters will have their artwork recognized in a special online auction to support the foundation.

The contributors include Sapphire, a poodle who’s known as Pawcasso, and Rookie, a three-legged shepherd. Natasha Baguley, a dog mom and canine art teacher, told Daily Paws, “I was especially happy to add these special dogs to our team this year because it goes back to the original goal of showing how differently abled dogs can still do amazing things.”

Want to see this special artwork for yourself? Check out the Tripawds auction starting on May 27th.

We love having guests over, but not everyone can handle pet dander. In fact, 3 in 10 people in the U.S. are allergic to pets. Thankfully, there are ways to clean your space to accommodate guests with pet sensitivities.

Hosting guests with pet allergies? Here's what to do before they arrive.

How to make your home safe for guests with pet allergies:

  • Vacuum. On the day that your guests are coming, ideally about three hours before they arrive, use a vacuum with a HEPA filter on fabrics and rugs.

  • Steam mop. For a deeper clean with no chemicals, use a steam mop.

  • Pet dander remover. There are certain products that you can rub onto your dog’s coat with just a towel – no bath time required. Check with your vet if you need help finding a brand that’s safe for your dog.

  • Turn on a fan. Keep the air moving with a fan or air purifier, or keep the windows open.

  • Fresh sheets. Wash the bedding that your guests will be sleeping on with hot water.

  • Keep some allergic medication on hand. Over the counter brands are easy to get, and your guests will surely appreciate the effort.

Canine blood donation: What you should know
Did you know that dogs can donate blood? Vets rely on donated blood when dogs undergo a major surgery and need a transfusion. Just like with humans, dogs can have different blood types. Currently, science says that there are 8 different canine blood types.

Interested in getting your dog set up as a canine blood donor? Here’s what you need to know.

If your dog meets these requirements, it’s likely that they’re eligible to donate. Is your dog…

  • A large-sized breeds or mixed breed?

  • A full-grown adult but not yet a senior?

  • Comfortable at a vet’s office?

  • Up to date on vaccines?

  • Current on flea/tick and heartworm preventatives?

  • Generally healthy?

If you think your dog might be a good fit, check out the North American Veterinary Blood Bank, a national registry that provides donated blood to clinics across the country. You can register your dog as a potential blood donor, and they will connect you with more information and donation opportunities in your area.

Did you know?
Answer: 20/75 vision! What this means is that dogs must be 20 feet from an object to see it as well as a human standing 75 feet away. Certain breeds have even better visual acuity. Labs, commonly used as seeing-eye dogs, are bred for better eyesight and can have vision that is closer to 20/20.
