“The journey of life is best traveled with a dog.”
Happy Wednesday! Here's the scoop:
Hiking destinations your dog’s been dreaming of
The cure for your dog’s itchy winter skin (we won’t judge if you try it yourself)
A jingle-free accessory that’ll get your pup home safe
Did you know...
The Beatles song ‘A Day in the Life’ has a frequency included at the end that only dogs can hear!
Give it a listen and watch your pup's reaction.
Take a Hike
It’s National Take a Hike Day! The only thing more satisfying than unplugging and enjoying a trek through nature is doing it with your best friend.
Grab your gear and check out some of the nation’s top dog-friendly trails:
Little Wildhorse and Bells Canyon Loop: Ferron, Utah. Considered a “haven for off-leash enthusiasts,” follow the 9-mile trail while your pup explores its hidden crevices. Pro tip: Make sure your dog’s wearing a harness in case they need a boost.
Whiteoak Canyon to Cedar Run Loop: Stanley, Virginia. This hike delivers waterfall after waterfall - 6 of them total. The sub 9-mile trail takes you over multiple water crossings, and your pup will love splashing in the shallow sections.
Duck Pass Trail: Mammoth Lakes, California. Enjoy snow-capped peaks and bright clear waters on this trail. The forested hillside and access to Arrowhead, Emerald, and Skelton Lakes will help keep Fido cool, even with the Cali sun shining.

Do(g)-It-Yourself
You’re not the only one whose skin is suffering from the sudden chill in the air. Your pup is just as susceptible to the dryness, flakiness, and itchiness that comes with the dip in temps.
Fortunately, their skincare doesn’t require serums or creams that practically break the bank. Try this simple (but super effective) moisturizing Oatmeal Dog Shampoo that uses ingredients you likely already have on hand.
What you’ll need:
1 cup of uncooked oatmeal
1/2 cup of baking soda
1 quart of warm water
Instructions:
Grind the oatmeal in a coffee grinder or food processor until it’s the consistency of flour.
Pour into a large bowl, mix in baking soda + warm water and stir.
Wet your dog with warm water and then lather him up with your homemade shampoo.
Work into their coat and allow it to sit for a few minutes, if they’ll let you. (having treats handy always helps)
Rinse thoroughly, dry, and prepare for the post-bath zoomies!
What we're digging
You know that cute jingle your dog’s ID tags make when they’re running to greet you at the door after a long workday? Then you also probably know how it’s not so cute when they’re scratching at 2:00 in the morning and you’re trying to sleep.
Road ID was created to provide convenient, wearable IDs for runners, cyclists, and triathletes in order to improve the outcome of unexpected accidents and emergencies. They soon realized the same wearable ID could benefit athletes of the four-legged variety - our lost or wandering dogs.
The company’s jingle-free Dog IDs attach to the band of your pet’s collar to eliminate the snagging and catching of traditional dog tags. Their custom engraving allows you to add all the important info needed to make sure your dog is identified and gets home safe to their pack. Plus, you can have a little fun with it. Our pup’s ID says: “Not all who wander are lost...but I am.”
If you or your dog are a runner, gift yourself some peace of mind with Road ID!
