Can dogs eat turkey?
Thanksgiving dinner’s main character might be considered a low fat protein for humans, but it’s not so simple for our canine companions.
Turkey itself is not toxic for dogs - it can sometimes even be found in their normal kibble. What’s added to the meat, however, can prove to be harmful.
Typically when cooking a turkey, special attention is spent on seasoning and basting and making sure the skin is that perfectttt savory golden brown. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what makes it inedible for dogs.
Onion and garlic are common ingredients in many seasonings, but are highly toxic to pets. Small amounts could cause an upset stomach, and a large helping of either can be even more serious. Small turkey bones can also cause digestive problems and are a major choking hazard for pups.
If you opt to share a tiny bite of bird, make sure it's boneless, well-cooked, and unseasoned. Or, stay on the safe side and consider treating your pooch to any of these pet-safe snacks instead: cranberries, unseasoned green beans, sweet potato, apple slices, carrots, squash, or corn. Their taste buds (and bellies) will thank you!
What we're digging
Their name says it all. Stay Home Club, one of our favorite women-owned small businesses dedicated to the concept of staying in, is taking things to a whole new level this gifting season.
The company’s classic products feature a mix of in-house designs and prints from contributing artists, resulting in “genuinely original apparel, accessories and printed goods to like-minded customers around the world.” Plus, a lot of their goods feature, you guessed it, dogs.
This year, Stay Home Club has launched their new customizable collection - “Us.” The personalized prints allow you to add up to 7 characters and custom text to show off the personality of your family, chosen family, friends, and even pets (see the adorable print below for inspo). Perfect for gifting or decking your own halls, the Us. collection is a unique way to immortalize the ones you love through a one-of-a-kind, absolutely adorable piece of art.
You can even turn your custom print into an ultra-cozy woven BLANKET (pinch us), like this cutie. Become the ultimate homebody with your pup under a blanket of...you and your pup.
