Only one breed that was among the five most popular breeds in 1934 still remains in the top five today.

Most popular dog names of 2021
Dog names have become more unique throughout the decades, with some of the more “creative” choices leaving us laughing or questioning when called out at the dog park (we encountered a “Beef” last week). Nevertheless, a pup’s moniker is a reflection of their/their owner’s personalities, and we’ve gotta respect the name game.

2021 saw a return to the classics with this year’s most popular dog names. The data was collected by analyzing 193k dog profiles generated on Yappy, a personalized dog products site, from January 1st to November 5th.

Most popular female dog names:

  1. Luna

  2. Penny

  3. Lucy

  4. Bella

  5. Daisy

Most popular male dog names:

  1. Cooper

  2. Charlie

  3. Winston

  4. Teddy

  5. Max

Do(g)-It-Yourself
Now that the Black Friday and Cyber Monday madness is over, it’s time to talk gift options for the easiest one on your holiday shopping list: your pooch.

Screenshot or save this recipe for a festive (and simple, delicious, inexpensive) holiday treat they’ll love!

Christmas Cookie Dog Treats
Makes: 18 small treats
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ¾ tsp baking powder

  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce

  • 2 tbs organic honey

  • 3½ tbs olive oil

  • 2 tbs organic dried cranberries, finely chopped

  • 2 tbs pumpkin seeds

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Add the flour, baking powder, applesauce, honey, and olive oil to a mixing bowl. Stir until well combined.

  • Knead dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out to about half an inch thick. Cut treats with a cookie cutter (pro tip: they’re even cuter if you use holiday themed cutters!) and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  • Firmly press a few pieces of chopped cranberries and pumpkin seeds into the top of each cookie.

  • Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until treats are firm to the touch.

  • Turn off oven and open oven door. Allow cookies to cool in oven, about 20-30 minutes.

These treats will keep for several days when stored in an airtight container, but we think the extras make the perfect gifts for fellow dog lovers!

What We’re Digging

Sorry we won’t be making it into work for the rest of the week, we’ve just been made aware of Puppies Crash Christmas on Hulu and will be glued to the tv for the foreseeable future.

This 12/10 video features multiple young pups playfully tearing apart a beautiful home decorated for Christmas (adorable or stressful, depending on who you might be). But, there’s also an extra level of entertainment to be had in the short film.

Embedded in the feature are references to numerous TV shows (think: “Game of Thrones,” “This is Us,” “Parks and Rec,” and more). Some of PCC’s little Easter eggs are obvious, but other references are far more obscure and will take a seasoned TV lover to notice. How many can you spot?

It really is the Christmas gift that keeps on giving. Stream here!
