The most adorable Christmas pageant features pups in Victorian costumes
Need some help getting into the Christmas spirit? Look no further than the annual Furbabies Dog Pageant. Each year, canine contestants from all over the U.K. gather in Leeds, England dressed up in costume. This year, the theme was Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol.
Nearly 90 invitees – and their owners – gathered for the event, which is now in its third year. Parading in front of a panel of judges, contestants showed off their ornate Victorian costumes inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic tale.
Stand-outs included a beagle dressed as a chimney sweep and a Maltese in a rhinestone-studded ball gown. First place in the pageant's Queen Bell category went to Mia, a cocker spaniel who wore an elaborate red costume fit for the Queen.

Pass the cheese, please
We all know that dogs love cheese, but is cheese actually safe for dogs to eat? We did some digging and found some answers from a veterinarian.
Good news: It is safe for dogs to eat cheese. With nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin B-12, and omega-3 fatty acids, you can feel good about making a tiny cheese plate for your pup. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that moderation is key. While humans can snack all we like, it’s best to limit your canine’s cheese intake to a “few small bites each day.”
So, what types of cheese are best to give your pup? Since dogs don’t have as much lactase as we do, cheeses that are lower in lactose are your best bet. Feel free to reach for cheddar, mozzarella, swiss cheese, or low-fat cottage cheese. Of course, keep an eye on your pup to make sure they don’t get an upset stomach. As always, if you’re unsure, consult your vet.
